Vocabulary and Writing

I was over at Rachelle Gardner, Literary Agent’s blog today and read her “Try Not To Sound Like A Writer!” post that linked the cartoon to the right, courtesy of Marty Coleman at The Napkin Dad.

I wanted to repost it here because it’s 1) great advice for writers, and 2) I just learned what the word sesquipedalian means thanks to an online vocabulary game. Not only is it fun, but it has already proven useful!

and in case you’re curious–

ses·qui·pe·da·li·an/ˌseskwəpəˈdālyən/Adjective

1. (of a word) Polysyllabic; long: “sesquipedalian surnames”.
2. Characterized by long words; long-winded.
